MANÇO ARCHITECTS BLOG, 08.11.2012 » link | Description | : | The project was submitted to the international architectural design competition opened by Moulin Rouge to develop a dance school on the plot adjacent to their existing premises in Paris.
A building that emphasizes the original Moulin Rouge with its contrasting outlook while reflecting the unique context of the program and the location was aimed throughout the design process.
A steel structure on top of concrete basements was proposed, in order to achieve the wide spaces required and to minimize the construction period on such a dense urban setting.
The components of the steel load bearing system was left bare in reference to the industrial past of the neighborhood, the iconic steel structures of the 19th century and the patterns of the “red mill’s” blades.
The auditoriums with no need for natural lighting were planned on the basement floor, the public and semi-public spaces were solved on the basement, ground and 1. floors, the “open space” is planned on the roof to allow sunbathing and a broader view of Paris.
The metal mesh enclosing the façade is intended to serve as sun breaker diffusing sunlight from the southeast whereas becoming a giant screen reflecting digital images with integrated LED lighting. |
